We used an ASUS Crosshair V in this guide, but the steps apply to any other E-Z Flash-equipped board.
Note that some modern board manufacturers (MSI and ASRock both included) will also allow BIOS flashing over ethernet or wireless connection, though USB is still the easiest and safest method.
On the format dialog box check the box next to “Create MS-DOS startup disk”Next when prompted (Fig-b) install the correct driver from the floppy disk provided with the motherboard, press the S key to specify the driver, and select the correct driver depending on which controller you are using, then press enter key to continue.
Flashing firmware used to be a sort-of haphazard process that often resulted in bricked motherboards.
At least, that was my experience when working with pre-UEFI motherboards in a lab environment.
Update the Motherboard BIOS This resource issue sometimes can be resolved through a system BIOS update.
To update your motherboard BIOS, refer to your motherboard manufacturer’s user manual or website.
It's an Asrock Z97 Extreme 6 board that came with bios version 1.3.
After getting windows 7 installed i went to asrock to make sure i had the latest drivers and decided to update the bios to 1.4.
Adjust the Boot Order of installed HBA If there is more than one HBA installed on the platform, aside from the RR600L series HBA, try swapping the HBA to another PCIe slot to change the boot sequence.
Note: if this option is used, the HBA can’t be used as a bootable device.
The only things i had changed in the bios prior to initial install of windows 7 was to set the SATA mode to RAID, I have two SSD disks as RAID 0 for my operating system on sata ports 0 and 1.
And also in storage config I changeed them from "hard disk" to "solid state disk".
Note: make sure to follow mainboard’s manual when updating firmware in order avoid damaging mainboard.
